Prison Island, one of the small islands surrounding Zanzibar, is just a 15-20 minute journey with a boat from the main island. Its called Prison Island because it was once used as a prison and there was once a time it was used as a quarantine area. On this island you’ll find the endangered tortoise that are known by their biological name known as the Geochelone Giganta.
This journey usually consumes 3-5 hours of your day, even more, all depending on your activities. As the tour is short, most travellers enjoy swimming on the beach and relaxing until the late afternoon before sunset and return back to the main island.
